Notes from what we discussed today at lunch. Please add your ideas to make this a very cool and exciting kick off! According to Mrs. Dodge and Craver, we are looking at around 170 girls. Should we make “goodies” for 175? I’d rather have a few extra than be a few short.
Who: Craver and Rye girls grades 8-12, Gina (& others from GCC?), Vicki, Sally, TJ, Nancy, Mr. Vinci? Mr. Davis? who else??? School of Mines contact??? Other community partners???
Where: Rye High School
When: Friday, October 19, 11:00 assembly
Gift bags–small gift bags (4/$1.00), candy, what other goodies? I found Rubik’s cube keychains, one was a traditional cube, and the other is a sudoku version.
Posters–(how many???) “Girls, we have a GIFT for you!” bright colors, glitzy gift-wrapped boxes, bows, big gift tags “for girls only”

We’ve talked about several ideas for community contacts and partners. I’ll try to remember as many as I can here and brainstorm a little more. PLEASE help think of more and post them here!
- GCC — THANK YOU for jumping on the bandwagon with us!
- PCC (I’ll contact Nancy Redding, Math chair, and see what can happen there. I may also give a call to Dennis Trujillo-Johnson–he’s a good contact person and may be able to point me in some other directions.)
- CSU-P (I’ll contact Keri and see if her husband can give us a contact name/number or two.)
- T-Vision (I’ll contact David Shipley and Jarod to see if/what they’ll do to be involved.)
- Colorado School of Mines (Gina, will you make the contact there for us, please?)
- TV/Radio stations?
- Pueblo Chieftain?
- Hospitals?
- Chemical depot?
- Chamber of Commerce?
- Latino Chamber? (Gina–you’re on their board, right? Do you see any potential partnership/connections?)
- Colorado Technical University?
- Cingular, Expresscripts, other call centers????

If you have a chance, check out these two blog entries from last fall. Mr. Davis asked girls in one of his classes to post their responses about why there aren’t more girls in technology. (In this case, they were specifically thinking about the video class, but many of their responses are more general in nature.) Cool thing–an educational technology expert was the first to reply to one of the posts.
What are your thoughts?
Where are the girls?
A technology class just for girls?
